How Much is Selling Your Home Going to Cost You?

When you’re selling your home in Knoxville (or anywhere, for that matter), you want to know how much it’s going to cost you to leave the closing table.

So how much is selling your home going to cost?

How Much Does it Cost to Sell a Home in Knoxville?

For most people, the largest fee involved in selling a home is the real estate commission. Some sellers try to save cash in this department by working with a discounted agent—but typically, if you hire the right Knoxville seller’s agent, you’ll be able to sell your home at the right price (and in the right time frame). The National Association of Realtors® says that sellers earn about 20 percent more by hiring the right agent.

Typically, a seller’s agent’s commission is negotiable of the home’s sale price. The buyer’s agent usually gets half of the commission if they bring a buyer. The seller’s agent must spend all the money upfront to sell your home, so they do not get reimbursed if the home does not sale.

Additional Costs That May Be Involved in Your Transaction

In some cases, sellers can pay buyers’ closing costs. You don’t have to—not by any means—but when it comes to your own transaction, your Realtor may advise options to make a few concessions in order to close the deal. They will help you understand those options very clearly.  Buyers may ask you to repaint the home, make minor repairs, or perform small upgrades. The key here is that you don’t have to do any of these things… but you should consult with your Realtor about whether it’s a good idea before you make a decision.

Some costs are unavoidable, though, such as pest inspections where required by law.
